I went to college at NJCU to studying English and Writing. I enjoyed what I went to school to study. I took Advanced Memoir Writing with Dr. Giunta. I got an A. I wrote a memoir that Dr. Giunta liked. I was so excited to have her like my memoir Tale of three half sisters. I enjoy memoir writing. I am working on a book project. Dr. Giunta will be back at NJCU in January 2020.

I lost 40 pounds on my own.
I was able to lose almost 40 pounds on my own. I know I am capable of losing weight on my own and keeping it off. My medications always made me hungry. My appetite increased because I was taking medication. I never knew how much I could succeed with my goals for my life until I started doing things on my own. Nastaja Torres said to me “wow Ayesha you looked so good with make up on at Memoirfest (December 2014) I could not believe it.” I liked the compliment. Vania interviewed me over the phone and in her Women in Lit paper she wrote in her paper that I was a self love advocate. Vania graduated from NJCU. Vania was a very nice young woman. I think about females empowering other females and I always think of Dr. Giunta and her memoir workshops she teaches at NJCU. I will always appreciate Dr. Giunta for her kindness and I’ll never forget how much she said she liked my memoir Tale of three half sisters. I now feel like I have gained so much from memoir writing and writing as a way of healing!
I started liking my life even if it’s not perfect.
I appreciate my life. Sometimes all of the things that glitter about other people’s lives cause us to feel like they seem to have everything because they have all of these things I don’t have. They seem to be the ones that have what seems to be everything. I have this renewed appreciation for my own life. Once I started to like myself again after I wrote my eighteen-page memoir “Tale of three half-sisters” as a part of my Advanced Seminar: Memoir Workshop class with Dr. Giunta. She is such a sweet kind person and she had conferences with me in her office and shared things with me giving me advice about how to write a memoir. She supported me and took me seriously as a writer. I admire her so much. She’s Sicilian American and taught at NJCU for over twenty years. I was so happy and so impressed with the way she teaches her memoir writing workshop classes at NJCU. I’m happy to be one of her former students and she’s coming back to NJCU in January 2020.
I decided to go au naturale.
I decided to start to appreciate my natural hair and I decided to stop using hair relaxers. It’s never easy but this is a good decision to have at my age 38. The hair I have is nappy. I am thinking I could have gotten my brain illness from chemicals. The process of chemical hair straightening is what destroyed my hair. I liked the relaxed look but it ruined my hair. I decided to go au naturale. I’m dark and lovely. No turning back!
I was able to see the new Disney Aladdin movie.
I have to say I had fun with the social group I am a part of seeing Aladdin. This is the Aladdin that is out now starring Will Smith. He’s a good actor. I remember him from the TV show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. That was one of the coolest shows on TV that I remember from my teenage years and even earlier. I like the movie but I think The Lion King movie is also new and I may be able to see it in the movie theaters if I tell a friend who agrees and also likes movies. I love a good movie.
I always wanted to have children.
I think I may consider adoption if I’m not able to have a child of my own by my early 40s. I’m going to the movies with friends to see the new Aladdin tomorrow. I saw the original Aladdin movie when I was like 12 years old. (I think) I am looking forward to seeing the new Aladdin movie and just hanging out with my friend Carey and the other members of the Just Friends social group. I feel like it may be a cool movie even if it’s different. I know Will Smith is a good actor so I am just going to go and see this movie.
I graduated from college at age 34 and I am proud of it.
I feel happy that I am still having successes in my 30s. I feel relevant but I’m very proud to say I was 34 years old when I got my bachelor’s degree from NJCU and that is one of the proudest achievements of my life. I think age should not be a factor. If a graduate is in her 30s, 40s, 50s or even older the completion is the thing that matters not your age. The whole point of being able to attend your graduation and being able to walk across the stage is the thing not the age you are but that you did it!
Sometimes it’s in the little things in life.
I participated in Yoga Dance from 7 pm to 8 pm at NAMI Mercer last night and I felt so good afterward. The Yoga teacher said she was teaching this class for the first time. I enjoyed the class and I felt really happy I went. Everyone had on exercise clothes and I had on a purple Levi’s t-shirt and Levi’s Bermuda shorts. It was a nice experience I had. I recommend if you think you might like these kinds of classes to register for one of the classes. There are four more classes before the end of the summer in August.

I had my bedroom painted light pink.
I’m a girly girl. I love Hello Kitty. I love the color pink. I love bling bling. I had my bedroom painted pink and the man that painted my room did an amazing paint job. He said oh my goodness”Ayesha wants a pink room.” I’m 38 years old and I have a light pink room. I feel happy. I’m a girl.
