My step dad said my poems in my chapbook were well-written. I need Russell Simmons to hear about my chapbook and invite me to read a longer poem on Def Poetry Jam.

Since I was in high school my stepdad said positive things about my writing. I once over heard him telling my mom I was a great writer. I always remember Neil saying “Ayesha is a great writer”. That made me feel good. My male professors didn’t really feel like I was a capable writer but I thank God for Edi! Edi said Ayesha you’re a good writer and you’re a poet. I am going to have a memoir (a book length memoir). I am almost at my end of the summer goal of having 120 pages or 40,000 words. I will set my goal of having 60,000 words by January 31, 2018. I’ll be 37 then. I want to publish my memoir by age 40.

My GPA when I graduated from NJCU was a 2.18 GPA.

My GPA was very low when I graduated from college. That’s all I regret. It says English on my diploma from NJCU. I am writing a memoir. I look forward to seeing Edi in September. I will have my 40,000 word or 120-page memoir piece in a manila folder in my new pink Coach tote with Coach logo. I will be wearing my pink bucket hat with Coach logo and clear contacts at the meeting of the NJCU Writers Workshop next month. I will have my entire 120 pages memoir looked over and ready to perfectly print out in the computer lab in the Professional Studies building before I go to meet Edi and tell her my goal is to have a book with 60,000 words. I will keep my 120-page memoir in a manila folder.

I am not angry and not easily angered

People that don’t know me assume I’m angry but I’m not. A few Just Friends members got a copy of my chapbook in 2016 after it came out. A few family members and a few more friends got a copies of my chapbook in 2017. I couldn’t be happier. Neil my step dad told me he really enjoyed the poems in my chapbook. When he told me that he was driving me home from work and on his car radio was NPR. They just so happened to be giving the backstory to how the poem America the Beautiful was written on NPR. My favorite poem/song is the Star Spangled Banner but I like America the Beautiful too! I am thinking about August. Soon it will be announced when I have orientation at my Mercer job. I’m looking forward to the Holidays this year. I’ll have a memoir (almost a book). I have a second chapbook manuscript that I will submit to publishers after next January 2018. I will submit to like ten chapbook contests in the Winter.

Everyone that knows me or remembers me: “Thank you for thinking of me”

Every classmate that remembers me from college, even high school classmates or friends in the Just Friends social group and at NAMI Mercer NJ that say “Ayesha I remember you”. I appreciate you friends. The more I work on this memoir/book project the more I realize that there are people I am friends with but many more people that “remember me” or would say “I know Ayesha”. I don’t have a lot of friends but there’s a lot of people that I socialize with at college and as a volunteer for NAMI Mercer NJ. I am having successes as a poet at age 36. Having successes is nice. I will continue to send out my work. I am going to try to get my second chapbook manuscript published. I will send my second chapbook manuscript out to several chapbook contests next January 2018! I hope to publish my memoir Ayesha’s Story the Schizophrenia Memoir by February 2021 around the time I turn forty.

I am beautiful and I have dark skin

I am just as beautiful as any other woman. I’m a Black/African woman. I feel good on this inside about me. It’s not about the outside even though I wouldn’t change my skin color for another skin color. I really love being Black and Black is what I am. I feel like Whitman’s Song of Myself is the dopest poem. Leaves of Grass is a classic poetry book to me. I don’t think of being like anyone else. I admire other women but I don’t want to be another woman. I admire how some women older than I am have professions like woman doctor or woman lawyer or woman judge. I’m a poet. I’m a writer. I’m a blogger. I review books on amazon.com. I have 45 reviews on Yelp. I am Internet Ayesha with a Facebook page and almost 150 friends on Facebook. I have followers on Twitter and I have a LinkedIn profile that is getting me noticed. I do my own thing. I have a blog too! I like the things I do. My favorite thing I do is my poetry. My second favorite thing is memoir writing. My third favorite thing I do is blogging. My fourth favorite thing is volunteering with NAMI Mercer!

I love the way my life turned out SZ and all

I found self love and acceptance in spite of my schizophrenia. My schizophrenia didn’t have to go away for me to smile when I think of myself. I love that I got my degree in English and Creative Writing. I love that I became a published writer and poet. I feel special every time someone says “my friend poet/writer Ayesha Karim”. I know I will have at least three poetry successes before the end of this year. I’m also taking WRAP in September for the fourth time. I love sunflowers, the beach and warm beautiful weather!
